Red WineWhat is red wine?Red wine is wine that has been made with red grapes. Red grapes are sometimes referred to as black grapes although in reality they are often a deep purple or blush colour. In general red wines are expected to be sturdy and "good with red meat and cheese", however there is far more to it than that. Does red wine need to breath? It depends on the wine, in general big fat wines will need to breath the longest, whereas your average supermarket plonk will be ready to drink straight away. What are the rules about drinking red wine with food? There really aren't any, certainly nothing more important than to drink what you like with what you are eating. That being said as a general guideline whites tend to work well with fish and poultry whereas reds will suit red meat and cheese. Can I serve red and white wine during the same meal?Yes! Feel free to match the wine to the course, or just let everyone drink what they prefer as everyones tastes are different. Should red wine be chilled? It largely depends on the wine. Full bodied heavier wines are best served at room temperature, whereas lighter more summery wines will benefit from being lightly chilled. How long can I keep it after opening it?Again it depends on the wine, generally the heavier the wine the longer it will keep. Most wines will not keep beyond a couple of days. How do I remove red wine stains from my carpet?
